The articles are a selection of contributions from the workshop City, Hinterland, and Environment: Urban Resilience in the Late Roman and Early Islamic Period held at the University of Bergen on September 23-25, 2019. The authors investigate urban resilience, environmental issues, and city-hinterland network building during the first millennium transition. The descriptions and analysis of multiple ways of facing a crisis help us understand the various outcomes of strategies and abilities used to recover.

ACTA34 issue articles are available at FRITT Open Access Journals (University of Oslo).

Printed copies may be purchased through the publisher’s website, Scienze e lettere.
