Work in progress!

The rehabilitation of the Institute building and other renovations are entering an exciting phase. The colours are starting to cover increasingly more of the facades, and the office floor and the terraces are ready to be tiled.

Building showing walls in different colours

The ongoing work was preceded by thorough examinations and analysis to ensure colours and materials in accordance with conservation regulations and good practices. Extensive work has been undertaken to secure, repair and restore windows, and walls, and the building is currently being painted in colours in accordance with recommendations by the Soprintendenza in Rome.

Windows have been repaired and painted by expert carpenters, wooden roller shutters have been fitted, walls have been repaired and prepared, the foundation laid for the lime coating. This week increasingly more colour appear on the building. The office floor is being refurbished, and is now waiting for the palazzo tiles to arrive.

The Estate Department at the University of Oslo is supported by the Norwegian Defence Estates Agency in leading the project, while the Italian company Alba is carrying out the work with the Roman-based architect Michele Annesi as coordinator.

Much work remains, but we have no doubt that the Institute will open as planned in September 2024.
