Project Manager of a festival arranged by Faculty of Humanities at University of Oslo to promote our research on arts and humanities. The festival will take place in Oslo March 7th -21st. 2024. The theme of the festival is history.

History is more important than ever. A society without historical awareness is a dangerous society. It can easily be manipulated. Historical awareness requires training, knowledge and methodological competence. History is about critical thinking and knowledge as an antidote to conspiracy theories and fantasies.

Background

I am an actress, producer and playwright who is deeply engaged in mediation in the field of art and humanities. I have been the president of Norwegian Actor`s Equity and the CEO and artistic head of The National Stage in Bergen. I have also been the president of the International Federation of Actors, FIA. I am the vice president of PEN Norway and I have published many articles on art, cultural policies and freedom of expression.

Artistic freedom and privacy –challenges in the use of biographical material in three productions at The National Stagediscusses biographical fiction. The three theatre productions "Reksten-firmaets mann" (Reksten -the company’s man) from 2014, "Vår ære/Vår makt"(Our honor /Our glory) from 2016 and "Kim F" (2018) were based on and inspired by biographical material. They premiered at The National Stage in Bergen when the author was CEO and artistic director. All three productions created polarized debates on artistic freedom and privacy.Haaland received anonymous threats and was threatened by legal action by people who wanted to have the scripts changed. The question is: Who owns the right to describe a real person's biography and private life? Haaland uses an autoethnographical lense to reflect on the legal and artistic circumstances connected to the use of biographical material in all three productions.

Henrik Ibsen’s dramaturgy, physical score and knowledge of theatre changed forever the way actors work to portray a character. This historiographic article addresses the development of acting methods seen through Henrik Ibsen’s Nora and Ibsen’s revolutionary renewal of drama and female representation. From Betty Henning created the first Nora in Copenhagen in 1879 three main traditions can be traced: Nora with roots in melodramatic acting, Nora as a political icon and Nora portrayed through psychological realism. This article will reflect on how Ibsen’s Nora required that actresses made their characters life-like and credible to the audience through what he called being continuously true to reality, "jævn natursandhed" (Ibsen 1878). By doing so he changed the very concept of acting.
