Abstract
The problem of pregeometry and selective realism
Within the philosophy of spacetime, the ontological status of the manifold (as it occurs in classical spacetime theories) has been a controversial issue for decades. We suggest that the debate is vexed by problematic literalist and holist realist background assumptions which we try to overcome with our very own selective realist take on the matter. While the talk focuses on an issue from philosophy of spacetime, it should be of interest to anyone concerned with scientific realism.
