My thesis explores the concept of truth in non-classical logic. Truth is a central concept for philosophy and the sciences. The thesis lies at the intersect between philosophy, linguistics and mathematical philosophy. The thesis revolves around the question of truth in our everyday language. Do we need a concept of truth? The thesis explores truth in non-classical logical systems, where a sentence can be true, false, both true and false, or neither true or false.

I look at whether beauty as a property of a theory can tell us anything about the success or pursuitworthiness of a given theory, given that a theory can be beautiful at all. I discuss the connection between beauty in art and beauty in science, and then tie this debate to the debate of whether beauty can indicate a theory’s pursuitworthiness or dictate theory choice. Lastly, I might want to look at math’s role in physics, questioning what explanatory power math has, and if it possibly is dispensable.
