– What are the most important aspects of your job?

– I work as a Brand Manager at Blender Agency – a fashion and lifestyle agency representing a range of fashion, sports and interior design brands in Scandinavia and parts of Europe, and I’m responsible for three of these brands.

As a Brand Manager at Blender, I have a varied work day involving all sorts of tasks. The most important of these is strategically developing these brands in Scandinavia and the rest of Europe. This involves brand building, sales and drawing up a budget and growth strategies. It’s also a really social job and I work closely with different clients and suppliers, and one of my key roles is building relationships

– What do you like best about your job?

It’s so gratifying having a job that is as social and creative as mine is, and that we get to work together as a team. I love getting to know new people, so it’s wonderful that I always meet and work with so many interesting people.

My job also involves travelling, which I’m extremely grateful for! I get to go to Paris, Copenhagen and Stockholm multiple times a year, and I think it’s really rewarding to work in an international environment.

My job is also really flexible and I get to work independently – I have a lot of freedom to structure my work days as I see best and at the same time I get lots of responsibility. I enjoy it a lot.

– How is the education from the Faculty of Humanities relevant in this job?

I got my bachelor's in Media Studies and my master’s in Screen Cultures. Even though I don’t work in an industry that is traditionally associated with my studies, I make use of them every day and am extremely happy with the direction I’ve chosen.

My studies were very topical and broad, something that I really value. My master’s in Screen Cultures was in English, and we Norwegian students were in the minority. This has meant that I’m used to working in an international environment. I’ve also found that there are many similarities between the way I learned to work during my studies and how I work today: being able to work independently and in a structured way, and working well in a team. I’m also grateful for the analytical skills I gained during my studies, particularly regarding communication and the media landscape. My knowledge about, and not least my interest in, the current digital and social media landscape, and the impact it has on various parts of society is something I need every day.

Last but not least, my studies will also provide me with many opportunities later on in my career, and open many doors to working in other industries! I’m grateful for that

– What is the best advice you can give new students who are thinking about job opportunities after completing their studies?

– My best piece of advice is just to think broadly about the industry you might want to work in, and which companies might be exciting. Use the contacts you have for everything they are worth. This will give you a leg up when it comes to job opportunities! You should also think about what you need to get the most out of your work: do you need a social working environment? Would you prefer a job where you work in a team or on your own? Do you want to travel with your work or not?
