Internship at Amathea Foundation

I strongly encourage everyone to take the internship course! It is a unique opportunity to gain practical experience and see how knowledge from Gender Studies can be applied in the workplace, says Ine.

What tasks did you perform during your internship?

– Amathea is a foundation with public funding and is the only nationwide healthcare service offering support before and after abortion. During my internship at Amathea, I had varied tasks. I got to shadow the daily manager Andrea at events and meetings. Alongside June in the communications department, I worked on different applications, website updates, and social media. I was present at the launches of important reports, such as the abortion committee's report and the "Unplanned Pregnancy" report.

How did you use skills you have acquired from your education at the Faculty of Humanities?

– I used my knowledge from Gender Studies to analyze how power structures, gender, and social contexts affected women's health and rights. This insight was very valuable for understanding and participating in Amathea's work with complex issues. I believe that a background in gender studies contributes to promoting inclusion, understanding, and respect for women's individual choices and rights. The internship strengthened my belief that an intersectional approach, considering various social categories such as gender, class, ethnicity, and ability, is crucial for developing healthcare services that truly meet women's needs.

What do you think is or was the greatest benefit from your internship?

– The internship has also increased my awareness of the importance of promoting the services of organizations like Amathea. I have noticed that many young people are not even aware that such services exist, and I see it as an important task to spread the information further. Conversations with friends, colleagues, and others have emphasized the significance of making these services known and accessible to all who need them.

Anything else you would like to add?

– I strongly encourage everyone to take this subject! It is a unique opportunity to gain practical experience and see how studies can be applied in the workplace. It challenges you to explore how you can use your knowledge from gender studies to see things in new ways in work environments where that expertise is relevant. At the same time, you have the opportunity to build a network that can be valuable in the future in your professional life!
