Seminar on research ethics for PhD candidates at the Faculty of Humanities. This is a compulsory course. Candidates in their second semester or later will be given priority.

To write a PhD means making a (hopefully) well-informed decision about the format: a monograph or a series of articles encompassed by a ‘kappa’. This is a decision the PhD-fellow and the supervisor should do together. After the decision is made, there is still lots to figure out.

This workshop explores how modern notions of ‘heritage’ can be applied to the study of premodern societies and their views on cultural preservation and transmission.

Teachers are Nina Burleigh, New York Times best-selling author and journalist, and Nina Kristiansen, editor of Forskning.no. This is a 1 ECTS digital workshop.

What is the role of history in society? How may history help contemporary society deal with major shifts that change societies in fundamental ways? This course will investigate the public role of historians using migration studies as the point of departure. Students do not need prior knowledge of migration history. This is a 3 ECTS digital course.

How is knowledge produced, negotiated, and mobilized in multilingual settings? The four studies presented in this seminar explore multilingual and multimodal literacy practices from various theoretical and methodological perspectives, and in a range of social, political, socioeconomic, and historical contexts.

The series of Advanced Research Courses offered by the Norwegian Research School in History will delve into a specialized topic and focus on historiography and research methods. This particular course, organized by the University of Bergen and BI - Norwegian Business School, will focus on the different ways that historical studies has dealt with materiality.
