IT in humanities research
Do you need help with using IT in humanities research? In addition to our own services, we have an overview of what is available elsewhere at UiO and experience with what is most useful for humanities researchers. This could be, for example, software or database solutions. We also have various options for those who wish to further their digital competence.
Some examples of what we offer
Courses and guidance
Humit can provide courses and guidance in generic digital skills and in the use of e.g. corpora, databases, and other language technology tools. If you want courses/guidance on something outside our scope, we will help you find out who you can contact.
Application assistance
We help formulate and describe technical work packages in project applications and create realistic budgets. In some cases, we may also be involved as a project partner if desired.
Advice on professional processes
In professional processes related to specialist IT, Humit will provide advice and participation.
Infrastructure and data storage
Humit can provide advice on how and where to store research data and associated metadata. We can also help with TSD or Educloud projects.
FAIR and personal data
Research data should be FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable). Humit actively participates in UiO's competence hub QualiFAIR and can provide advice on such questions or point you in the right direction. The same applies to questions regarding personal data.
Recording and transcription
We have extensive experience in recording and transcribing audio and video files.
Loan of recording equipment and laptops
We have various pieces of recording equipment we loan out, such as wireless microphones, stereo recorders, six-track recorders, and video cameras with associated microphones and a helmet camera. We also have laptops for lending that can be used for recording, experiments, or other short-term tasks.
