Workshop with KLIMER Guest Researcher Joana van de Löcht

How did Western Early Modern literary cultures react to weather and climatic events? What texts did they read to understand their environment? How to ecocritically re-read Early Modern sources from today's perspective?

On 4-5 September Joana van de Löcht and Ada Arendt welcomed a group of MA and PhD students from across different fields of study taking part in a two-day workshop on ecocritical readings of Early Modern literature.

Participants discussed the objectives and methods of ecocriticism, different genres of the Early Modern literary culture, and the practice of informed anachronistic reading of old texts.

The workshop offered a rare glimpse into Hieronymus Bock's Kreuterbuch, a herbarium published in Strasbourg in 1565, now in the collection of the Library of Medical Sciences at the University of Oslo.
