What are you going to work with at IFIKK?

In my three years as a postdoctoral fellow I am working towards editing a corpus of liturgical prayers preserved on papyrus. These texts are important but neglected sources of early Christian worship practices in Egypt and I hope to make them available for a wider schorarly audience including theologians, historians, and philologists. At the same time I will also reflect on the place of liturgy in the everyday life of Christians in late antiquity.

Can you tell us a bit about your research interests?

I am trained as a papyrologist, philologist, and historian. I have discovered Christian liturgy and its papyrological sources as an attractive but understudied research topic during my master studies. Little known even among specialists of early Christian history, liturgy was nevertheless an important part of ancient Christians’ life that deserves more attention. I have therefore devoted myself to studying its sources, its development over the centuries, as well as its lived reality and its impact on other activities such as magical rites or artistic production.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

In normal times, I enjoy traveling and meeting with people, but currently reading takes up much of my free time - especially reading tales for my two-year-old son. And I miss the hiking and skiing from Oslo!
