Ongoing projects

I am currently working on a doctoral thesis about Maaltrosten (1903-1942), a mission periodical aimed at children published by a Norwegian missionary organisation called Norsk misjon blant hjemløse. In Maaltrosten Norsk misjon blant hjemløse wrote about their various projects aimed at romani in Norway, where the main goal was to assimilate the group. Through this material we get a unique view of how romani were represented to children in the Norwegian public. Maaltrosten was one of many mission periodicals aimed at children in this period, and in my thesis I want to look at it in a transnational context where the reading of magazines and the philanthropic activities they inspired were regarded as essential in shaping the young readers into ethical and engaged citizens.

Background

I have formerly worked in various museums and archives, like the Oslo-based Historical Museum and Norwegian Museum of Cultural History.
