I am a PhD fellow at the University of Oslo under the supervision of Joey Pollock.

Research Summary

My PhD project examines the integration of moral considerations into metasemantics, with a focus on social externalism and the notion of semantic expertise. Traditionally, metasemantics is approached descriptively, and within social externalism, meaning is often determined by patterns of deference to perceived experts. However, when it comes to socially significant terms – such as “racism” or “woman” – this approach can be problematic, as these terms often embody contested social power dynamics.

My research advocates for a redefinition of semantic expertise within the framework of social externalism. I propose that for concepts representing social kinds, semantic expertise should be attributed to members of marginalized communities who hold relevant epistemic authority.

Academic Background

I hold a BA in Philosophy, International, and Economic Studies from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, and an MA in Philosophy from the University of Oslo. My MA thesis, supervised by Øystein Linnebo and Joey Pollock, was on the barriers to conceptual implementation in Conceptual Engineering for socially significant social kind terms.
