Academic interests
I research the epistemic role of machine learning models in science, focusing on deep learning. Specifically, I look at how their use may contribute to theory development by providing scientific explanations, understanding and theory confirmation, as well as what their limitations are for providing scientific understanding rather than just predictions. This involves looking at the difference as well as the similarities between these two goals in science.
