Academic interests

My area of speciality is with the philosophy of reasons and normativity, and the intersection between metaethics and normative ethics. Much of my research has been concerned with how agents can have both morality and self-interest can be sources of reasons for agents. The reasons that come from these sources may have complex interactions with each other, but may also come into conflict with each other. My primary research question has been what we ought to do when faced with such conflicts.

I have also worked with other areas of philsophy. I have written about the nature of melancholy and its value. I have also worked on the ethics of military conscriptio, and with how transgender people can be better included as staff and students in institutions of higher education.

Presently, I am working on meaningfulness in life. I also have a strong research interest in feminist philosophy and the metaphysics of sex and gender.
