Welcome Sebastian!

Sebastian Sander Oest is our new PhD student.

Bronde man with a big smile

Sebastian Sander Oest

We are delighted to welcome Sebastian, who will work as our new PhD student and will carry out his philosophical research as part of the AssemblingLife project.

Sebastian is from Denmark, where he completed his M.A. in Philosophy at Aarhus University.

In his master thesis, Sebastian explored the intersection of biology and cognition by conducting a conceptual investigation into claims that the organizational principles of biological systems can help explain cognition. His interest in process philosophies and the philosophical foundation of complex systems directs his attention to self-assembly phenomena. As a member of the project, he helps clarify the concept of self-assembly, brings it into contact with the complexity of living systems, and investigates the relation between self-assembly and the more well-understood phenomenon of self-organization.

Besides his love for philosophy, he is also passionate about the art and craft of theater-productions. He has spent most of his youth training as an actor! He also enjoys black coffee, the purple hue of birch trees during autumn, and he is a follower of the Diatom Appreciation Society. He is always open to new conversations and collaborations so feel free to contact him!

We are elated to have Sebastian as part of the AssemblingLife project!
