Om prosjektet
Mennesker, som andre dyr, tenker og handler på en intelligent måte for å nå sine mål. Men til forskjell fra de fleste, kanskje alle, andre dyr er mennesker også i stand til å tenke om tanker, eller 'metarepresentere', og å utføre overlagt, kritisk resonering.
Begge disse evnene er uttrykk for vår egenart som reflekterende vesener, og er trolig sentrale for vår menneskelige natur.
Filosofer har lenge søkt å forstå hver enkelt av disse to menneskelige evnene, men hittil ofte i isolasjon fra hverandre, noe som har latt mange viktige spørsmål stå ubesvart.
Dette prosjektet var en systematisk, integrert studie av sammenhengene mellom resonering og metarepresentasjon, hvor vi utforsket hvordan disse evnene utøves i sentrale områder for mentalt liv, slik som selvbevissthet, autonom handling, og kommunikasjon.
