Bendik Hellem Aaby forsker på biologiens filosofi og handlingsfilosofi. Han forsker blant annet på rollen atferd spiller i evolusjonsteorien, om attribusjon av aktørskap til ikke-menneskelige organismer, og i hvilken grad hensiktsmessighet kan forklares av evolusjonsteorien.
Bendik Hellem Aaby har sin PhD fra KU Leuven i Belgia, hvor han også tilbrakte to år som postdoktor.
