CIMS is proud to co-sponsor a special keynote address by Mada Masr publisher and founding editor, Lina Attalah at Oslo's Interkulturelt Museum on Saturday, September 21, 2024, 12:00 to 13:30.

Synopsis of the event:

Listening in to a history on the sidelines, tracing overlaps between personal history and public history, witnessing a genocide and morphing through the witnessing, daydreaming of the moment the war will be over, remaking a home by the sea in Gaza, imagining a politics that defaces the universal but that is not stuck in the particular. The aforementioned is a laundry list that tries to unpack solidarity, turning it from a moral act of sympathy and alignment to a mode of engagement where one's own life from here on is in question. It is an engagement through the troublesome substance of time.

About Lina Attalah:

Attalah is publisher and founding editor of Mada Masr, a Cairo-based news website at the forefront of investigative journalism in Egypt, which she founded in 2013 with a group of journalists who had been fired from their jobs. She leads a team of fearless reporters who expose high-level corruption and misconduct in the midst of the country’s harsh crackdown on independent voices. Attalah is the recipient of the 2020 Knight International Journalism Award presented by the International Center for Journalists to honor outstanding journalism that has an impact. She has been the driving force behind Mada Masr since it launched in 2013. She has over two decades of experience working as a journalist in the region.
