The Centre's main areas of expertise are museums and the history of knowledge, museums and the politics of identity, and how museums organize and manage culture and nature.

Our work

The Centre for Museum Studies aims to link the museological research undertaken at the Department of Culture Studies and Oriental Languages (IKOS) with research conducted by other parties elsewhere. Research at the Centre encompasses a wide range of museal institutions.

Today, many of the existing distinctions between museums of anthropology/ethnology, art and natural history are being challenged. Among the central themes of the research carried out at the Centre are the origins, structures, developments and renegotiations of these demarcation lines.

The Centre for Museum Studies was opened on the 12th of April 2011.
