IKOS PhD seminar: New Directions: Social Movement Theory

Why do people come together to change the world they live in? Why and under what circumstances does social mobilization occur? Why does it turn violent? What are the potential social, cultural, and political consequences?

These are some of the questions asked within the field of Social Movement Theory, pioneered by Donatella della Porta, from Scuola Normale Superiore in Florence, who will join us to present and discuss her work with us.

Among Donatella Della Porta's main research fields are social movements, political violence, terrorism, corruption, the police and protest policing.
