The mid-term evaluation is organized in two parts and starts with a 2-hour public seminar, followed by a closed meeting.

The purpose of the evaluation is to assess the progress of the PhD project at a point when it is still possible to make small or substantial changes. In general, we want to know how the candidate is doing, how much work is done, and what is left.

About the PhD candidate and her Research:

Hanne Amanda Trangerud is part of the Scandinavian Network for Research in the Study of Religion.

Her academic interests are Religion and politics, Evangelicals, USA, the Cyrus figure, Antiquity, the History of Christianity in the West, Religion and health/disease, Vaccine hesitancy, Communication

The purpose of this thesis is to contribute to a better understanding of religious vaccine skepticism as a phenomenon, with a particular focus on childhood immunizations in the United States. Since vaccines are mandatory before enrollment in schools and childcare facilities, and since most states offer religious exemptions to these mandates, religious reasons for avoiding vaccines become more visible and are easier to study (in contrast to, e.g., Norway, where vaccination is voluntary and little attention therefore is paid to why parents decline).
