This month we'll be joined by the research associate professor at the University of Grenoble Alps Céline Granjou to discuss her research on the politics and science of soil.

About the reading group

We are happy to welcome the research associate professor at the University of Grenoble Alps Céline Granjou as our guest for the Soils March Reading Group. This month we will read and discuss two papers that Céline Granjou has co-authored. The first one is on soil science and the second one turns more to the political aspects of soil mapping. See the full reading list below.

About the presenter:

Céline Granjou is a research associate professor at the University of Grenoble Alps (Research Institute for Environment and Agriculture) with a background in science and technology studies and environmental sociology. Her research interests include the politics of environmental anticipation, the production of biodiversity knowledge related to ‘novel’ agendas such as cities and micro-organisms, human/soil relations and soil carbon sequestration initiatives.
She coordinates the research project ‘The Promises of Soil Carbon Sequestration: Innovations, organisations, Knowledge’ (2021-2025, funded by the French National Agency for Research) and is an associate editor for the interdisciplinary journal Futures and la Revue d’Anthropologie des Connaissances. She has authored over 30 academic articles and 4 books including:
"Environmental Changes - The Futures of Nature", ISTE/Wiley 2016.
"Thinking with Soils - Material Politics and Social Theory", Bloomsbury, 2020 (co-edited with Salazar, J, Kearnes, M., Krzywoszynska, A. & Tironi M.)
