Academic interests

My PhD-project is a part of the research project “Minority Literary Voices in Contemporary Scandinavia”. I will carry out a case study of a Norwegian Language Arts class's readings of autobiographical texts about growing up in Norway with a minority background. Analyzing the students written texts, whole class discussions and conversations in reading groups, I will investigate how the students use different emotions and personal experiences to create meaning from the texts, and how this varies between different teaching activities. Overall, I have the ambition to discuss the conditions for autobiographical narratives about belonging to a minority group in Norway to move ideas about ourselves and the society around us. In other words, the project aims to investigate the link between literature and democratic learning.

With this project, I want to contribute to literature didactic research in two areas in particular:

1) Deepen the understanding of the student’s engagement and participation when making sense of non-fiction, especially texts with autobiographical parts.

2) Deepen the understanding of the importance of emotions in working with literature in the classroom, both in reading, writing and discussions.

Background

I have a M.A. from the Teacher Education Program at the University of Oslo (2014). My main subject was Nordic Languages and Literature, but I also took courses in Religion, Theology, Ethics, German Language and Literature, and History of Ideas. 2013-2022 I worked as a teacher in both Norway and in Germany.
