ILN is hiring teaching assistants for courses and programs for the fall semester 2024

We are looking for students who want to contribute to learning in a social environment, counteract loneliness, and create a good study environment.

What is a teaching assistant?

The teaching assistants will contribute to improving the academic and social support of students, mainly by organizing study groups, and thus ensure good learning outcomes, learning environment, and study progression. As a teaching assistant, you will follow up fellow students with both academic and social initiatives.

Training and preparation

HF:Studio provides comprehensive training for student assistants at HF. The specific training you receive will be tailored to your prior experience as a learning assistant and the type of support desired by the course instructor.

Training for new learning assistants in fall 2024 will begin with a common module. The date for this will be announced later and published at the link below:

Newly hired learning assistants will be invited to an informational meeting on Friday, June 14th at 1:00 PM in Henrik Wergelands hus, room 536. This meeting will cover expectations and provide further details about the role.


About the position

The engagement period is from August to December, and the work starts in June with preparations, planning, and training.

Teaching assistants play a vital role in supporting our teachers and enhancing the student experience. Your primary responsibility will be to facilitate student learning and engagement through:

  • Leading discussion groups (colloquia): You'll guide students in discussions and activities related to the course material, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
  • Providing academic support: Offer assistance with assignments, study skills, and academic writing.
  • Promoting social connection: Help create a welcoming atmosphere for students, especially freshmen, and organize social events to combat loneliness.
  • Collaborating with teachers: Work closely with professors to develop effective learning strategies and align your support with their teaching goals.

We are looking for learning assistants for the following programmes

  • Master in Ibsen Studies 

  • Master in Multilingualism 

Who can apply?

You must meet these points to be considered for the position:

  • You are an active student in the fall of 2024, bachelor or master's degree.
  • You should have good knowledge of the course (or program) you want to be a teaching assistant for, and ideally have taken the subject yourself or a similar subject.
  • If you are a bachelor student, you must have completed at least the first year of your studies.
  • Students who already have experience as a learning assistant may be prioritized.
  • The courses taught in Norwegian require Scandinavian speaking teaching assistants.
