Literature, Cognition and Emotions (LCE) is announcing 5 scholarships of NOK 20,000 for students at the University of Oslo who are writing a master thesis within LCE’s research areas. LCE engages in research at the interface between literary studies, linguistics and psychology. Emotions and cognitive processes from memory to the imagination, bodily experience and how it translates into language, narrative, mind-wandering and identity are all examples of on-going research at LCE. Please consult our website for further details. We aim to support MA students developing thesis topics in these areas with the financial support of the scholarship.
Who can apply?
MA students at the University of Oslo writing a thesis on a topic within LCE’s research areas. Candidates should be enrolled in any of the MA study programmes or PSI profesjonsstudier, and they need to have started writing their thesis.

Application Deadline: 15 January 2022
The application must include:
- Name, address and contact details of the applicant, including place of study
- Short CV
- Grade Transcript
- Confirmation from the supervisor that you have been admitted to the MA programme and are writing a thesis on a relevant topic
- A project description of one A4 page, detailing the topic, relevant theory / method and a progress plan. The relevance of the thesis to LCE research areas must be explained.
What is expected?
Scholarship recipients commit to writing and submitting their MA thesis. They are expected to participate actively in LCE’s MA offers, such as the MA study group, as well as attend guest lectures open to MA students. Scholarship recipients will be invited to present their work in the MA master class or another of LCE’s events.
Payment of the scholarship
The scholarship will be paid in two instalments: the first half when it is awarded, and the second half when the thesis has been submitted and presented in the MA master class or another of LCE’s events.
