About the group

As geo-cultural areas, the Nordic countries and Latin America are relatively peripheral. The literary and cultural interactions and exchanges between these two regions have not been greatly explored so far.

The research group analyses these exchanges, which challenge the centre-periphery dynamics and the hegemony of the English language.

Research interests

The group is interested in literary translation from a textual point of view and as cultural mediation. We also study the material aspect of the translations.

Our research questions include: Who translates? Why and how do they do it? What actors and institutions have favored these interactions? What historical factors, such as diasporas, have determined the circulation of symbolic goods between the two regions?

Activities

Fellowships and Collaborations

The group meets regularly. We discuss publications related to our field of interest, the ongoing work of the group members, and possible research activities. We frequently host guests researching topics related to our field of interest, such as book fairs, translation and translators, literary agents, prizes, translation support programmes, publishing policies, and literature festivals.

We are interested in developing collaborative projects and maintaining a supportive environment, including PhD and MA students, scholars and visiting scholars, and postdoctoral fellows. We are happy to welcome doctoral fellows enrolled through the PhD programme of the Faculty of Humanities and Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action postdoc fellows from across the world. The department of Literature, Area Studies and European languages announces PhD fellowships in literary studies once a year.
