Academic English for doctoral fellows

This four-week course is open to doctoral fellows from HF and SV but HF fellows will be prioritised. The language of instruction is English.

Many of our doctoral fellows write their thesis in English. Most of them, however, work in other fields than English Studies and, for many, English is not their native tongue. If this description fits you, you may recognise how it can be challenging to give your writing a linguistic form which effectively and accurately communicates your intended message, all the while that it is grammatically correct, stylistically appropriate and in conformity with what is conventional in your specific field. This course focuses on the task of achieving an appropriate linguistic form, emphasising the rules for grammatically correct, and idiomatic academic English. The course comprises four 2-hour sessions. Participants are expected to familiarise themselves with the reading before the start of the first seminar.

Note that this course is organised by ILOS, not the Writing Centre at the University Library, and that it is not a course where you will receive feedback on your own draft texts.

This course offers no ECTS.
