Academic interests

I am interested in how violent events are depicted across diverse kinds of imagery, from early-modern engravings and woodcuts to the photography, film, and AI generated pictures of our day. In particular, my interests lie in how such events are transformed, embellished, or outright falsified in images.

For my PhD project I am studying how images that are in some way falsified — for example, by being repurposed and mislabeled, having details altered, or by being entirely fabricated — depict atrocities, and how these images then interact with narratives of those atrocities. I approach this topic through a combination of historiographic case studies, visual rhetorical analysis, and in light of scholarship of media events.

Background

I received my Master’s degree from the Department of Media and Communication’s Screen Cultures program at the University of Oslo. My Bachelor’s degree was taken at Temple University’s Center for the Arts in Philadelphia, USA.

Since Moving to Norway in 2017 I have worked predominantly in the post-production industry. In 2021 I co-founded and was a board member of the post-production house Bråkmaker AS. In addition, I have held positions at Kunstnernes Hus Kino.
