About the seminar

In this seminar, Katie Day Good will explore the unequal landscape of opportunities to disconnect from digital technologies in schools.

Discussing emerging youth- and teacher-led movements in the U.S. to refuse and restrict the use of certain educational and social media technologies in schools, Good will highlight educational institutions as primary sites of struggle over technological influence and user agency in the digital era.

She argues that technology refusal is an important conceptual addition to digital literacy education and scholarship.

The second presenter is Mehri Agai, who will present research on youth disconnection practices. Agai will unpack the intricate ways disconnection is woven into the fabric of daily digital navigation for young people. Through an emic approach, utilizing digital diaries, she will demonstrate how personal records can provide insight into the subtle complexities of digital disconnection.

The time and date for the seminar is December 5, 1400-1500 (Norwegian time)
