About the seminar
Sara Van Bruyssel focuses on digital wellbeing. In her presentation, she will zoom in on commodified digital disconnection and explore the tensions that can arise when disconnection is entered into market dynamics that reproduce societal inequalities and privileges. See the recent article in Convergence.
Drawing on her research about digital detox retreats, self-help books and apps, Zeena Feldman will talk about the material conditions of the UK’s disconnection marketplace. She complicates the widespread assumption that digital disconnection is a project of and for the elite, and explores how the registers of choice and privilege operate in contemporary disconnection practices.
