Information meeting about placement semester in the master programs

IMK invites all master students who started on their programs in 2022 to an information meeting about a placement semester (internship semester) in their studies.

Starting with the cohort of 2022, all master students at IMK may apply for a placement semester on their third semester (autumn). The new course code is MEVIT4930.This will in most circumstances be combined with a 30 ECTS master's thesis, and the two courses will replace a 60 ECTS master's thesis.

See more in about this on the programme structure of your programs:

Now we want to expand the possibilities for placement semesters, so that it will also be possible to apply for a placement semester in Norway. The placement course is now called MEVIT4930 – Praksissemester for mediestudenter

But placements are still scarce - it is not certain that everyone who wants it will get a placement in autumn 2023. Firstly, it is not IMK, but the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that decides who gets the placements at Norwegian foreign missions, and students from several master's programmes, and several educational institutions can apply for this. (You have to be a Norwegian citizen to be able to apply for placements at Norwegian embassies and consulates)

We aim to inform you about how a placement in your degree will work, where, and how many placements we think will be on offer, and hopefully to answer your questions. Please be advised that it is still an ongoing work.

From IMK, the course coordinators Maria Utheim and Joakim Johansen Østby, as well as the study administration will be there, and from the Faculty of Humanities, Torunn Nyland will inform you about placements abroad.

Note that we use the English term "placement" rather than "internship". While internships are usually undertaken after graduation to gain experience in a particular field, work placements are taken as part of a degree.
