Sigvald Tveit: 'Songs of the Nunamiut: historical recordings and transcriptions of an Alaskan Eskimo community'

Omtale fra Cristin:

"Historical Recordings and Transcripstions of an Alaskan Eskimo Community. In 1950, when Helge Ingstad returned from his year among the Alaskan Eskimo tribe, the Nunamiuts, with his tape of 141 songs (which consisted of approximately three hours of recordings of their songs), he handed his material over to the Norwegian composer and scholar Eivind Groven (1901- 1977). In this book, we will present some of Groven´s transcriptions as well as examples of the Nunamiut songs on the attached CD . In my article "A Presentation Of Eyvind Groven´s Thesis On Eskimo Melodies From Alaska", I have a summary of his thesis, where the method in which he worked is described. His thesis is in Norwegian, and can be aquired (as xerox copies) from the Department of Music at the University of Oslo. It contains 170 pages, including the transcriptions. Attached to this book, we present a selection of the songs on a CD as well as Mr. Groven´s transcriptions of these songs".
