In anticipation of the general call for papers for the 15th International Ibsen Conference in Nanjing, China on June 24-26, 2024, the local organizing committee encourages proposals for thematic streams and other organized panels related to the overall conference theme, “The Intermedial Ibsen”. In light of new developments in intermedial studies in literature and arts, the intermedial approaches to Ibsen may include, for instance, the images of artists in Ibsen’s plays, the intermedial reference to music and architecture, the Ibsen paintings by Edvard Munch, film adaptations based on Ibsen’s plays, remediations of Ibsen in musicals and dance theatre, intercultural performances of Ibsen, and so on. The proposals need not be limited to the general theme of intermediality, but can be drawn from the broad field of Ibsen Studies.

The committee is open to proposals of session formats for collaborative work. For organizational reasons, all activities will be planed within 90-minute slots. Thematic stream example may include: a series of parallel sessions, tied together by a common topic, offered sequentially within the overall conference framework. They are well suited for finding international colleagues working on similar topics, and for working towards a joint publication after the conference.

The list of thematic streams will be published together with the general Call for Papers on September 1, 2023, at which point the stream chair(s) can aid the local organizing committee in recruiting, reviewing, and organizing the stream.

All proposals must include an abstract of 200-300 words and the name of the chair(s). In the case of organized panels, the abstract should also include the names of all proposed presenters. The chair(s) will be responsible for the internal organization and communication with all presenters, as well as for communication with the local organizing committee.

Please send the proposal to ibsen2024@126.com no later than August 1, 2023. Email any questions to the local organizing committee at the same address. Approved streams and panels will be communicated to chairs and published on September 1, 2023 on the conference website.

We wish our Ibsen friends good health.
