Over the past decade, the Center of Excellence MultiLing has studied multilingualism in society across the lifespan. The Center has contributed to how society can deal with the opportunities and challenges of multilingualism through increased knowledge, promoting agency for individuals in society, and a better quality of life, no matter what linguistic and social background we have.

  • Multilingual competence and acquisition
  • Multilingualism in multifaceted populations (aphasia, dementia, ADHD etc.)
  • Language and cognitive processing in multilingual brains
  • Multilingual practices in families, institutions, and public space
  • Multilingual, multimodal communication online and offline
  • Language attitudes and ideologies in multilingual settings
  • Policies, political processes, and activism in multilingual societies

  • The added value of interdisciplinary research on multilingualism

Program

Poster presentations

Former MultiLing alumni and current colleagues at MultiLing are invited to submit a poster proposal to showcase their contribution to the extensive field of research done at the MultiLing Center between 2013-2023.

Maximum poster size A0 (841 x 1189 mm) with portrait orientation. Presenters must print the posters before the conference. MultiLing can not finance printing of posters. It is possible to print your poster at UiO Graphic Center (select private orders) or any other private vendors in Oslo, like Aksell or Alfa Trykk.

Posters must contain the title, authors’ names and affiliations. Here are some tips:

  • Titles and captions should be short and easy to read
  • Text and figures should be designed to be viewed from a distance of at least one meter and should use clear, visible graphics and large lettering

A Poster Session will be held during both days of the conference (Oct. 19-20), with
a dedicated time slot, and there will be no academic sessions parallel to it. You may
wish to bring A4 format copies of your poster to distribute during the poster
session.

Traveling to the Closing Conference

The easiest way to travel to Oslo city center from Oslo Airport is to take Flytoget. You can purchase tickets at the airport or pay by card directly at the gates. Please take the train headed to Drammen or Stabekk to get to Nationaltheateret or Oslo S station. It takes about 20-25 minutes to reach Nationaltheateret by train.

To purchase tickets for bus/tram/metro (T-bane) within Oslo, it is possible to purchase a Ruter pay-as-you-go card in any 7Eleven, Narvesen and Deli de Luca kiosks. There is also a Ruter customer service point at Nationaltheateret station.

Otherwise, you can also purchase tickets through the Ruter app on your smartphone. However, we have experienced that phones from outside of Norway have had difficulties purchasing tickets through the app.

To get to the Closing Conference from the city center, you can either take the tram or the metro (T-bane):

  • Tram (line 18 to Rikshospitalet) to Universitetet Blindern stop
  • T-bane (line 4 to Vestli or line 5 to Sognsvann) to Blindern stop.
