About the event

The event addresses a wide audience: researchers as well as practitioners mainly within health and health care institutions; politicians, researchers from other fields. Language and communication across cultures was addressed as a central field of investigation. Important talks were given on cognitive screening for dementia in patients of immigrant background (Rune Nielsen, Denmark, Peter Bekkhus-Wetterberg, Oslo US), demonstrating severe cultural biases in the common screening instruments used; as well as on language, communication and safety in dementia care (Charlotta Plejert, Sweden), demonstrating communication problems in care of immigrant dementia patients both with and without the use of interpreters.

Venue: Norwegian Directorate of Health

Host/organising institution: ENIEC (European Network on Intercultural Elderly Care). Local organisers: NAKMI (Nasjonal kompetanseenhet for minoritetshelse)
