Abstract
This paper examines how young children negotiatecomplex mappings between phonological structureand durational cues in their early productions, andexplores how competition between multiple uses oftemporal properties may influence the acquisition pathway. Findings suggest children switch prioritiesas they develop, possibly as a result of mastering amore complete range of phonetic devices.
